Seoul RFID Public Transportation Card
Jun 6th, 2006 by Yue

While visiting Seoul I learned that its public transportation systems started using RFID systems for ticketing for way back in 1996. Still today, most major US and European cities use paper tickets. And instead of using RFID tags that look just like credit cards, there are a large assortment of shapes to choose from. It turns out most people want to attach their RFID ticket to their mobile phone as an accessory.
A company called Eb Card implemented the sytem. I met them during one afternoon, and after our meeting, they gave me a tour of their facility where they manufacture RFID readers, host their call center and have their test labs. It’s all very impressive. So far they’ve issued over 40 millions tags!
